I’ve checked NHTSA website and neither of Vinfast VF8 nor VF9 is listed. Which insurance company will write a policy on a vehicle without safety rating?

So true always seems like Vinfast is trying to run before they can walk.

Lots of cars that are insurable don’t get NHTSA certification (it’s very expensive testing!).

That isn’t to say a mass market production vehicle from Vinfast isn’t getting tested, just that NHTSA crash testing isn’t a prereq for insurance companies writing a policy

OK it’s good info. I was not sure if safety rating would ever being used as a factor in the policy calculation.

While taking a drive today I saw a glimpse of the Vinfast badge, so I stopped for a closer look. They are clearly undergoing crash testing, so far the one that appears to have been tested seems like it faired well, although I don’t have any details about the testing speed or type. I see at least 2 other VF8s awaiting testing as well. That said, I also saw another EV competitor there and I wasn’t very impressed with it’s appearance after testing.

Thanks for sharing Alex. Big leap forward for Vinfast.

The official announcement from VinFast on December 21, 2022: VinFast has complied with all applicable FMVSS issued by NHTSA. Please refer to the link: https://www.vingroup.net/en/news/detail/2702/vinfast-celebrates-the-arrival-of-the-first-shipment-of-vehicles-to-the-united-states-all-certifications-to-sell-vehicle

This doesn’t tell me anything. I need crash testing results from NHTSA and EURO NCAP showing 5-star ratings for VF8. I’ve been hearing for many months now they will be out soon so at this point, talk is cheap, I need to see official results. If Vinfast has the link to crash test results, please share the link. I won’t purchase a car without a 5* rating.

Does Vinfast have crash report that you would like to share?

Hello Phong Vo, thank you for being a valued Community Member! NHTSA’s 5-star safety rating test program does not accommodate new manufacturers or new vehicles in their first year of introduction into the market and so neither VF 8 nor VF 9 would be listed on the NHTSA website for ratings. However, several leading insurance companies in the US have confirmed that they will provide insurance for VinFast owners. Hello Phong Vo, thank you for being a valued Community Member! Ok, so now I’m confused! I was told many times by Vinfast staff that safety testing has been ongoing since early last year. I’ve even received an e-mail from Brandon at Vinfast Customer Experience that he received information that VF8’s received ASEAN NCAP 5*, ERO NCAP 5* and NHTSA 5* ratings but wasn’t sure when it would be published. Are you now saying VF8’s aren’t being tested at NHTSA because it’s their first year of production? I also recall reading on Vinfast website under the FAQs that safety testing was in progress. Can we get some clarity on this subject from someone higher up the chain of Vinfast.

Lastly, 2023 Subaru Solterra is a new EV not yet out but currently being tested by NHTSA.

Thank you Mod for the feedback. My original intention for the question relates to the aspect of VF8 being insurable but David P. had mentioned above to the underlining prereq as not required by insurance companies. It also evidenced by the fact that some of 45 VF8 owners were able to obtain insurance coverage with ease so it was comforting to know. I guess the publication of NHTSA would be more of a self assurance for prospect buyers knowing VF8 is safe in the event of collision.

Not sure why this hasn’t been shared by Vinfast but VF8 was tested by ASEAN NCAP in February. VF8 received a 5*. Thought I would share. Click on the link for more info.

Awesome video, showing the VF8 fared way, way better than others, including Tesla. As far as insurance, I have come accross some people who couldn’t get insurance with their current insurance companies. I have advised them to go to 21st Century who insures all of my cars. If their companies are too lazy to update their systems to include VinFast, it will be their losses once customers find out about other companies that will insure VF8 and all of their customers’ cars for less!
