How does hot weather affect electric cars?

How hot weather affects electric cars is a matter of concern to many EVs-loving customers. Owners need to understand the effects of hot weather and immediately take measures to maintain optimal operating conditions for electric vehicles. 1. How does hot weather affect electric vehicles? Hot weather can cause many negative effects on electric vehicles. Understanding the effects of hot sun on electric vehicles below can help users take measures to prevent and overcome them in time. 1.1. Battery charging speed In fact, lithium-ion batteries work best in the temperature range of 68-77 degrees Fahrenheit/ 20-25 degrees Celsius. Excessive heat will cause the electronic components in the battery to degrade faster. At the same time, when the point of overheating is near, the charging rate of the battery will decrease. This is because the battery management system (BMS) has adjusted the charging speed according to the temperature of the battery to prevent overheating. Even charging can be paused for safety while waiting for the battery to cool down. 1.2. Battery cooling system Depending on the cooling system on each electric vehicle model, the battery will not be affected by the same temperature. Using liquid cooling is more efficient than using forced…

How Your Battery Can Help Generate Power During a Power Outage?

In the United States, everyone will experience at least two hours of a power outage during the year. While this is a considerably low number, a power outage can come in various ways: from standard maintenance to natural emergencies like storms and blizzards. It can be said that electricity is an essential part of our lives. It is the lifeblood for many of the activities that we do daily, and now, even our vehicles.  However, your electric vehicle is essentially a large battery on wheels. Thus, one surprising advantage of your EV battery is that you can have the ability to use it to power your home in case of emergencies. Even though your electric vehicle can be charged using your home’s power. The opposite can be done to power your home by using the energy left from your car’s battery. Or, simply, a generator as a backup power source.  EVs now have battery packs ranging from 40 to 65 kilowatt-hours. That means a fully charged battery from your electric vehicle can power your home for two to three days. Maybe even four days if your battery capacities reach beyond 65 kilowatt-hours.  Even though this is a relatively new concept,…

An Update on California’s Sale Ban on Gas-Powered Vehicles

In August, California regulators voted to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles from 2035 to tackle the rising threat of climate change. With California being the largest EV market in the world, it’s not difficult to see the state proceeding with an all-EV future a decade from now. Not only that, but the neighboring state of Nevada is also looking to follow suit by banning the sale of ICE vehicles starting in 2035.  The state is aiming that all vehicles sold from 2035 must not emit greenhouse gases. The state seeks to have 35% of new cars sold to the public be EVs by 2026, and they are rising by more than two-thirds by 2030 and an outright 100% five years later. However, residents in California will still be able to operate a gas-powered vehicle and buy used gas-powered cars after the ban in 2035. At the same time, some exemptions will be made by the state for selected gas-electric hybrid models that can still be sold in California. Bạn cần đăng nhập để tương tác với nội dung này: Đăng nhập.

Why Driving and Owning an EV is a fun experience.

Are you a first time EV owner, finally making the switch from your old gas-guzzling counterparts? Or are you thinking about finally making that switch? It’s always truth that taking your car on the road is always an interesting experience because anything can happen along the way. However, as technology improves, our daily drive experience will become a much better experience. Especially when driving with an electric vehicle, you will feel more at ease and focus more on going on the road. As electric vehicles are designed to help you in nearly anything you need in a car.  Driving an electric vehicle is always a pleasant and smooth experience, even in all terrains you will encounter. EVs on the market are built with comfort and precision to ensure you have everything you need when driving. With the car’s center of gravity lower, the vehicle is relatively easier to navigate and more agile, and the weight distribution helps the vehicle perform better in all conditions. The electric engine will give you a smooth acceleration and deceleration performance than a traditional ICE-powered vehicle. Are you tired of your old-school CD and radio player? Well, you are in luck because infotainment is one…

What Things Can Drain Your EV Car Battery?

Many people can relate to being stranded by a flat battery—maybe it’s even happened to you. So, if you’re in the market to buy a new electric vehicle, you may wonder what it would take to drain this type of battery and what you can do to avoid such an outcome. Let’s find out. Focusing on Battery Technology Fully electric vehicles rely entirely on their battery, and the good news is that these units are now very advanced. In the last 12 years or so since the first EV hit the roads, manufacturers have taken advantage of sophisticated battery management systems. These systems protect and extend the life of these batteries, and some believe that today’s EV battery could outlast its host vehicle.  Meanwhile, manufacturers like VinFast are investing heavily in even better technology. The company expects to have solid-state EV batteries made by ProLogium Technology on board by 2024. Reducing Battery Drain But still, drivers must ensure that they charge the battery per the instructions and that they do not run out of “juice.” With this in mind, it pays to know what automotive features can drain your battery should you need to isolate them in an emergency. Heating…

EV Trends to Look out for in 2023

The exciting pace of Electric Vehicle (EV) technology is just part of the buzz and energy surrounding the segment. With even more cars entering the market, there are so many storylines to watch. Here are four emerging EV trends you can expect to see in 2023.  Battery Subscription Programs  Batteries are a major component of any electric vehicle. They’re also the biggest and most difficult to dispose of at the end of their life. VinFast aims to make battery maintenance and replacement a non-issue for EV drivers with its innovative subscription program. This program allows you to pay monthly for the use of your battery, which will be replaced as soon as it drops to 70% of its original capacity for holding a charge.  Increasing Demand Due to High Gas Prices  Fuel prices continue to rise, putting the pinch on drivers with conventional internal combustion engines (ICE). This will push demand for EVs, especially as range and charging speeds continue to improve.  A Focus on Recycling  We’re already seeing more and more drivers asking about the end-of-life for batteries, and what that might mean for the environment. Rapid development in battery recycling technology, including the VinFast investment in Li-Cycle’s Spoke and Hub system,…

5 Questions to Ask Before Buying an EV

In 2021, the number of electric vehicle sales increased to a record-breaking 6.6 million. By the end of 2021, there were around 16.5 million electric vehicles on the road worldwide, which was triple the number in 2018. Are you thinking about jumping on the bandwagon? Here are five important questions to ask before you purchase an EV. Question 1: Is the Range Sufficient? Make sure an EV’s range is at least enough for your outings and everyday commute. It’s best to consider an electric vehicle that can run for more than 200 miles on a single charge, like VinFast’s VF8 or VF9, which have an enhanced battery range of 277 to 369 miles. Question 2: How and Where Will I Charge My EV? For Level 1 charging, you can plug your vehicle into a standard 110-volt wall outlet. For faster and more convenient Level 2 charging, consider having a 240-volt service installed within your garage. You should also look for nearby public charging stations in public parking lots, city streets, or within new-car dealerships. Question 3: Should I Purchase a New or Used EV? While the lower price of a used EV might seem tempting, consider the added value and peace of mind that a new…
