Should You Buy an Electric Car or a Plug-In Hybrid?

Are you considering buying a car and trying to decide if an electric car or plug-in hybrid is right for you? You’re not alone. With the increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), more and more people are asking themselves the same question. In this article, we’ll explore the differences between electric cars (EVs) and plug-in hybrids so you can decide which one is the right choice for you.  What Is an Electric Vehicle (EV)? An electric vehicle (EV) is a car that is powered solely by electricity. It has an electric motor and a battery, but no gasoline engine. The battery is recharged by plugging the car into an external power source. EVs are becoming increasingly popular due to their environmental benefits, as they produce zero emissions and are more efficient than gasoline-powered cars. The biggest benefit of electric vehicles is that they don’t require gasoline. This means that EV’s are much better for the environment and they also save you money on fuel.  What Is a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) Car? A plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is a car that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor and a battery. The battery is recharged…

Seven Top Tips for New EV Drivers

Driving an electric vehicle (EV) is not only great for the environment but also a lot of fun. If you’re new to the world of EVs, there are some thing new considerations with which you may want to become more familiar. The experience of driving an EV is, after all, a different way of driving. We’ve gathered advice from experienced (and not so experienced) EV drivers. Here are our top tips to make the most of your electric experience. Tip #1: Charge at Home If You Can One of the biggest advantages of owning an EV is the ability to charge it at home. If you have access to a garage or driveway, consider installing a Level 2 charging station. This will allow you to charge your EV faster and more conveniently than with a standard 120-volt outlet. Portable chargers are included with every VinFast eSUVs and offer maximum flexibility when charging at home or on the go. With its included adapters, you can plug into a standard 120V wall receptacle for slower charging (Level 1) or you can install a 240V oven/range receptacle for faster charging (Level 2). Alternatively, you may choose to install a home charger, which offers…

How Much Does It Cost to Charge an EV?

As the world becomes more conscious of the impact of carbon emissions on the environment, Electric Vehicles (or EVs) have become increasingly popular. Public administrators and policymakers all over the world have formulated policies aimed at accelerating the transition from fossil-fuel-reliant vehicles to more eco-friendly electric vehicles. For most drivers, however, purchasing an EV is not just about the transition to cleaner energy but also about economics. It is more affordable to power an EV than an internal combustion engine (ICE). With the rising costs of fuel and the availability of government incentives, electric cars have become more economical and convenient than ever before. But what is the actual cost of charging an electric vehicle? Well, the answer isn’t as clear-cut as one would expect.  What Determines the Cost of Charging an Electric Vehicle? There is no simple one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to how much charging an EV costs. A whole host of factors can affect the cost, like your vehicle’s model, type of charger, electricity rates in your state, energy provider, weather conditions  and time of the day. Let’s take a brief look at each of these variables. Electricity Rates and Providers In the US, utilities tend to…

Is It Harmful To Leave Your EV Plugged in All the Time?

Leaving an electric vehicle (EV) plugged in all the time is generally not harmful to the battery, but following the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging and storage can help maximize the battery’s lifespan. Most modern EVs have sophisticated battery management systems (BMS) that ensure that the battery is charged optimally and help avoid overcharging or undercharging. However, there are some factors that can affect the battery’s lifespan if the EV is left plugged in all the time. For example, exposing the battery to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold) for extended periods can degrade the battery’s health over time. Similarly, exposing the battery to high levels of charge (eg charging to 100% capacity frequently) can also impact its overall lifespan. To minimize impact, follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for charging and storage. Some manufacturers suggest keeping the battery between 20–80% capacity to optimize its lifespan. Additionally, if the EV is going to be stored for an extended period (ie several weeks),leave the battery level at ~50%. How Do EVs Prevent Their Batteries from Being Overcharged? A BMS is a crucial component in an EV that manages the battery pack’s performance, safety and health. It’s responsible for monitoring and controlling various aspects of…
