I thought it would be good to start a thread for people who took delivery of a VF8 today to post reviews/feedback, etc.

If you’re a new owner, please post your thoughts!

If you’re not an owner, but came across someone who is in a media article (youtube/website/etc.) link it for the rest of us!

I picked up my VF8 yesterday and here is list of issues I encountered over a day:

    1. ON driving back to home, Headlight level system faulted. It went away on its own the following morning

    2. Not able to save drive mode settings

    3. Not able to turn off audio. It turns on by itself on unlocking the car.

    4. Climate control: cold air coming out of vents even after turning off AC and Fan.

    5. Ran into charging issue once

Picked up my Vinfast VF8 Plus yesterday at the Richmond CA. Dealership/service center. Quick and painless. In and out with 30 mins. My sales person Darlene Hoang was awesome! Start to finish. Took 8 days from the time I reserved to get my vehicle. Happy to be apart of this community.

    Hi everyone! First post!

Just took delivery of a white VF8 Plus. The shopping process is definitely different than just heading over to my local automall and getting something, but it worked out okay. First test drove during a massive rainstorm 13 days ago (Sunday, 2/4, I believe). Thought I might be picking up a car within a couple of days, but it ended up taking nearly two weeks. My salesperson found me a car, and here we are.

I did most of the paperwork during the ride to the dealership in Ventura. Easy because my sales rep picked me up since family was out of town, and couldn’t drive with me from Thousand Oaks.

Only bad thing was the techs had turned off the power in the service area the night before, so the car didn’t charge over night and no one checked in the morning. Such is life. But range anxiety is a real thing when you start at ~36% in your first EV. Stopped at the Oaks Mall on the way home and went from 32% to ~37%. First thing tomorrow I’ll be visiting a local fast charger and getting back to full charge.

Can wait to start making some small mods like blacking out the badges and maybe a new set of wheels. And maybe some ceramic window tint to keep it cool in the summer. Looking forward to getting to know the VF8 and the EV life….

    Erik

We are into our first month of the 24 month lease of a VF8/plus/city edition. What a mess. As the writer from Motor Trend said in the title of the story “return to sender”. If it weren’t for the outstanding service dept folks who have now come out twice to fix it, I would have dropped off the car at their showroom in Irvine and given them the car back. This car wasn’t ready for delivery.

The battery didn’t hold a charge. The rear brakes needed to be replaced. The electronics still don’t work correctly and the promised software update is supposed to fix it but it hasn’t come out yet.

We left for a road trip last week from Laguna Beach to Paso Robles which is 253 miles. The car was fully charged to 100% and was showing a range of 266 miles. We knew it would not make it the entire distance without stopping for a rapid charge along the way so we planned a stop. Driving along the 101 just before Solvang which is a 178 miles, the range on the screen was showing 0% charge and less than 2 miles.

We crossed out fingers, turned off the a/c and coasted into the nearest charging station which was only a level 2 charger. We had to wait over 30 minutes to get it up to 15 miles before we could drive into Solvang to a high speed, Electrify America charging station. There, after waiting another 40 minutes the car was showing a 100% level and again, a range of 266.

This car can’t make it 266 miles PERIOD. VinFast is giving new meaning to “RA”—-range anxiety along with “CA”—-charging anxiety. We found numerous out of order charging stations along the way both level 2 and high speed.

The so-called “City Edition” is a joke. We signed up for the full battery version which is supposedly now being delivered and they are telling us that it has a range of 243…….not sure I can believe that as well?! I want VinFast to take back this city edition and swap it out for a longer range car. We can’t use it for anything but local driving around town and just driving out to Palm Springs or Paso Robles again would be a stressful and painful experience.

I know from other automotive writer reviews and other owners, what we are experiencing with this car is indicative of what other folks are experiencing. VinFast brought over 999 of these ill-conceived City Edition cars and there will be 999 very, very unhappy owners that could eventually bury VinFast in the retail, EV marketplace.

      Hi Geoff Roemerman,

We appreciate you bringing this battery subscription concern to our attention! Currently, our battery subscription program is still under development. We want to thank you for being patient and supportive of us throughout this process!

I booked for vf9 and would want to wait until I get the battery subscription back as part of the original promise. We can’t afford to spend 80K on a totally new brand without knowing how the service and support is going to be and how the performance in the long run will be, without having some peace of mind of battery subscription in place and the 20K-25K lower the price.

I received my VF8 yesterday, and it’s been a pleasant experience so far.

It was bit of an adjustment since this is my very first EV. Overall, there are so much tech in this car and so many settings that we cant wait to explore them all. I’ve been telling people around me about VF, and it’s satisfying that the vehicle is finally here. Bugs here and there would be fixed with a few OTA updates. my next-door neighbor stopped by and chatted with my hubby and was convinced to getting 1 soon. we should earn some commission as a result.

We tested ADAS on the freeway last night and just loved the smooth handling.

I need to learn to not slam on the accelerator while on Eco mode to conserve battery.

Key things are how to adjust the settings that would work out the best tailored to your preferences. Unfortunately I am still waiting my chance to test drive and hopefully buying one myself. I wish Vinfast ought to consider bringing back the battery leasing because a number of early reservation holders are in simply due to this reason.

I’ve heard they haven’t abandoned the idea of battery leasing yet, but the lack of details is concerning!

That was my intention when reserving my vf8 as well. The battery leasing plan would have worked out so well for us since we dont drive as much.

I believe the banks here dont like the battery leasing program, so VF has to adjust their plans.

I just hope the OTA updates really happen. That was something we were told would take place with our VW ID.4, and so far the updates have been pretty much non-existent. Looking forward to seeing if VinFast delivers!

I received my VF8 Plus on Saturday March 4. Drove it the past few days and the experience has been pleasant. The only noises I heard came from all the notifications while driving (Lane Departure Warning – drifting to either side of the road, speed limit..) but I guess you could turn them off. I did experience 2 fault warning messages one of which was about the Blind Spot Warning lights on both side mirrors. At that time, both lights were on during the whole trip to work but after being parked for a while, the warning went away. Both times the errors occured, the car just went through an over-night charging at home so I don’t know if that has anything to do with it..

This leads me to another question I have been wondering. Who services these cars when they have problems which they will. Where do you take the car when there is an annoying rattle? The car I test drove recently had a very loud rattle along with a rear window wiper that would not work, no matter how many times the VinFast representative turned if off and back on.

Even the best car manufacturer produces cars with minor and major issues.

Thanks for your feedback on your test drive, I had no noise issues when I test drove a car in Commerce location and the car drove fine. I understand they currently have 4 service centers where they can address any issue. While at the Commerce location, I had a list of questions I wanted addressed, one of which had to do with servicing their cars. I believe their first choice would be to have someone from the mobile service address issue before sending to a service center. I was also told if a car had to be serviced at a service center, car loaners or uber rides would be offered. I hope this helps. It would be nice if a VF moderator could chime in with more info.

It would be nice to hear more feedback from others who have either leased a car or did a test drive.

Just to follow up on my post, Vinfast called regarding my post. They confirmed 2 service centers are currently open, 1 in Northern CA and 1 in Southern CA. The service center in Southern CA is in Carson. This is the 3rd time Vinfast has reached out to me regarding comments posted so it good to know they are reading our comments.

I saw that response to having a rattling sound on the drive home. If Vinfast did remove the post that is not a great representation of this forum and I will stop using this one as they are being biased to only spread what they want people to see. They want people to only hear the good stuff and not the negative. Sorry to say this VINFAST we are not a Communist Country if you can not take that your vehicle is not up to our standards guess what we the people (Democracy) we let the people know so that everyone has a better understanding on what is going on and how the company can improve. This is a good reason why never to buy a first year car to get these bugs out of the system.

I also had a post deleted but not sure why. I never received any feedback from Vinfast as to why it was deleted.
