VF9 Delivery Update
40 VF PointsMember09/26/2023 at 23:56Looking for any updates anyone has on the VF9. The last update I could find in the forums was in May stating ordering opening in Q2, delivery at the end of Q3 or beginning of Q4. I also found a lot of VinFast moderator posts saying sorry for not proactively communicating changes. It’s frustrating that they continue to apologize, but then not learn from their mistakes and communicate with their reservation holders! Hopefully they’re still planning on the first part of Q4 timeline, but since I don’t believe ordering opened, I find it unlikely. Any information that anyone can share would be appreciated. (I know I could call, but I think this kind of public forum answers questions that many of us have.)

VF8 was delivered in Vietnam in 09/2022 then started delivery in California in 03/2023. With that timeline, I was expecting a 6-month gap between Vietnam delivery and California’s delivery meaning possibly 11/2023 delivery here.
In Vietnam they delivered VF9 in 05/2023, but ADAS was only activated recently. To be honest, I wouldn’t pick up VF9 if ADAS isnt active yet since it works flawlessly with my VF8.
Please be patient and let VF fine tune this VF9 before bringing here to compete with other EVs. However, i do agree with you on proactively communicating with reservation holders. Ready or not, VF needs to have some ways to convey their plans.

Since no one from VinFast has stepped up to reply, let a fellow VF8 owner (me) try to chime in. These is my sole opinion base on the news that I have gathered over the internet and my months of following EV in general and VinFast specifically.
We, the consumers, were promised the VF 9, 3 row seaters, full size SUV in the Q3 of 2023. It is now Q3 and the shipment has yet to be shipped from Vietnam, let alone deliver to US customers. At the current pace, I do feel it is unlikely that VinFast could or would deliver the VF9 batch to the US (California) by 2023.
Here are my reasons:
- Almost everyone else (Honda, BMW, Mercedes, GM, etc) is adopting NACS (North American Charging Standard spearheaded by Tesla) in 2025 with adapters for their cars in early 202. VinFast is still talking with Tesla to work on its adoption for all VF models in the USA. It would be naive if VinFast would be the only one not adopting. Being a Tesla driver myself, I can tell you that Tesla Superchargers are far superior than Chargepoint, EVGo, Electrify America (everyone else). Trust me, I have used them all!
- It makes sense to hold on to the current VF9 batch in Vietnam while talking with Tesla, so if and when VinFast adopts NACS, they could retrofit the current models in VF to allow the capability to charge all Tesla’s superchargers. They could only start to update the current VF 9s if and when the talk with Tesla is finalized. As to when is the talk done? No one here would know except for Tesla and VinFast.
- The price war started by Tesla to cut their Model X to under 80k (remember Tesla qualifies for 7.5 Fed EV credit) for a base model has shaken the EV industry. The Kia EV 9 is said to start at 64k (does not qualify for 7.5 Fed EV credit) for the long range 7 seater model with 280 miles range (more or less). These two models have 3 row seats just like VF9, so it is best to wait and gauge a little more to see how VF could reduce the price to make it attractive and competitive enough against the big boys in the neighborhood.
- VinFast software, please don’t get me started, bless those programmers. I love computer programmers, I am one so what I not to love? But for the love of God, VinFast EV software is downright buggy. I said so many times in my video for the Vietnamese community to grasp. Excessive sounds, abusive use of Yellow Exclamation which only should be reserved for serious software/hardware issues in the car. Don’t get me wrong, the car is OK, it is not the best one out there, but it is decent; it is the software that really gave the early models of VF a bad image in many reviewers’ eyes. Fine tuning the software and learn from the mistakes of VF 8, delivering it early next year should be a better tactic.
Well, there you have it, those are my guesses as to why we haven’t heard anything from VinFast regarding its flagship full size SUV VF9.
Software is VinFast’s Achilles’ heel, VinFast has a long way to go in the software department, among other aspects of their car. Though I believe they are heading in the right direction.

Remember that time when a bunch of VinFirst Pioneers reserved VF9s in early 2022 with a whole ton of perks (e.g., vacation to Vietnam, chunky discount, etc.) but the promotion has a 12/31/2023 expiration date? Remember when that order we placed was for a three-row SUV with a $61K MSRP? That certainly panned out well.

Im sure they would have to extend the validity of voucher.
When i picked up my VF8, i had only till 03/2024 to redeem my VinPearl voucher. I wasnt able to plan during this timeframe and several owners voiced the same concern. VF extended the VinPearl voucher till 2025 for us (2 years from pick up date).
In terms of pricing, 61k was the price without battery. The 83k price tag is battery inclusive.
However, with EV leader like Tesla lowering their price, VF would be force to adjust their pricing accordingly as well.

What will be the price of VF9 for early registers in US? Is the battery lease option still in place or not? I booked for VF9 plus, but as per the current sticker price shown on website which is 91k is way too high for any reasonable buyer of Vinfast. I am expecting it around 55k for regular modal and 60k for VF9 PLUS. Do you guys agree?

Financial institutions here don’t seem to be a fan of battery subscription plan, so they eliminated battery sub plan for VF8.
Im not too sure what the final price tag would be for VF9. Listed price at the moment is considerably high, but it does come with massage chairs for front and middle row as far as i know.
46k is the VF8 eco, and 52k is the VF8 plus as of now. If it’s 60k for VF9 Eco, more people would rather get VF9 than VF8. I think it would be in the 65-75k range for VF9 eco trim.
Let’s wait and see.

65k is still too high for eco trim, considering the battery give below 300 miles, and spending over 10-15k just for massage chairs is meaning less. As per the current configuration 3rd row seats are not very comfortable for adults on a long drive. And most of all the quality and performance still needs to be proven on road. Not sure how many will buy at that price tag when compared to Tesla and Hyundai and people may even look for BMW or Mercedes as an alternative if they can afford that much money than looking at Vinfast.

Epa rated range for vf9 eco is 330miles and plus is 291 miles.
With my current VF8 City Edition Plus, epa range is only 191miles but i have been getting at least 220 miles.
VF9’s range might be even better than epa rated is my opinion.
