I did the road test drive last weekend and some things I hadn’t noticed during the parking lot drives.

While I once again noticed the cheap plastic handles on all the doors from the parking lot drive, two things I didn’t notice were first, the video panel is not adjustable so the driver and tilt up or down or towards the driver. It is positioned for someone sitting in the middle of the back seat. This normally wouldn’t be a big deal if there was a dashboard or some of the driving modes could be controlled from the steering wheel.

This led to the second thing I noticed on this road test that I really did not like. There is no Dashboard in front of the steering wheel. It is just a blank. The heads-up display is nice, but there really needs to be a dashboard in front of the steering wheel, especially since the monitor is not angled toward the driver.

The car did drive nicely though. Plenty of get up and go in it to merge onto the freeway. The three different drive modes were fun to test out and the two different regenerative modes were very interesting. The full regen will take some getting used to and honestly found it annoying on the freeway.

The camera’s were much better than on the version of the car we drove last month in the parking lot. The backup camera had the lines you see on most backup cameras, with warning chimes if you were getting close to an object.

The bottom line is I think I need to go do another test drive as there are a lot of bells and whistle in this vehicle that distract one from the basic necessities one needs for driving safely.

A strong shout out to the team at Berkeley VinFast, they were very friendly and helpful.

Hello all I finally did an actual Road Test drive yesterday. My wife and I like the car but I was curious on what the actual range was on the CE. We’ll come to find out that it is close to what the normal is according to the estimator. Now I know this is not a real range calculator. However the one I test drove was a red plus that has 0.0 – 0.1 miles on it. So I was the very first person to drive it. The SOC was 95% with estimated 245.5 miles of range. So either the CE are extremely generous on range estimates. Or marketing is being very cautious on range estimates. I am guessing the 2nd one.

The seat was a bit stiff but can get use to it. The lumbar can be adjusted and that helped. One of the issues that this one has which probably just needs updated software is the high setting on braking Regen was not working. An error message was coming up that it was not using high Regen.

The ADAS is nice but did not think it was on until I was starting to go over the line and the wheel would guide it over for lane centering when cruise was not on.

Wife rode in backseat and enjoyed the ride said it was very quiet and like you were gliding in air. Last thing I noticed was the driver’s door was very hard to close. It felt extremely heavy when trying to close the door like it did not want to move.

As a VF9 reservation holder that’s in the Midwest, I appreciate hearing your feedback. I can’t just run down the street and drive one/see one, so experiences like this are the only thing I really have to base my decision to keep waiting or not on, since VinFast is doing nothing to communicate or bring a vehicle to my area. It’s weird that they didn’t angle the monitor, it looks like they did in the VF9.
