At the VF8 test drive in Long Beach, CA, I heard that I am not eligible for the EV tax credit. My reservation is from Oct 2022 and also heard that the tax credit will start once the vehicles are manufactured in the NC factory in 2024. Would like to hear from others on this topic. Appreciated.

Hi there Jeevan, as stated by your fellow community members in the responses. Our vehicles are not manufactured in the United States along with the source of battery components, the Inflation Reduction Act deemed our vehicles did not qualify for this credit. I’m afraid due to the date of your reservation the IRA had been signed into law therefore converting your order was no longer an option.

A few days before Biden signed the new bill, Vinfast was offering reservations to be converted into a non-refundable binding contract and be eligible for the $7,500 tax credit. Not sure if I would purchase the car without this credit.

Did you convert to an order prior to the IRA becoming law? If you did, you are good to go. If you didn’t, the rebate will be very hard to get unless you wait for the US factory to churn out vehicles AND they source the battery from mostly US sources,,,
