How Many Miles per Day Does the Average Person Drive?

In 2022, the average American commutes 41 miles per day to and from work. Compare this with the average range for a battery-electric vehicle of around 216 miles. So, for such an average person, this equates to four days or more of normal driving without needing to charge their vehicle.

Of course, most electric vehicle owners can charge their cars at home overnight, which means you should never have to even think about range anxiety.

What About Long-Distance Journeys?

Still, you might be anxious about taking a long-distance trip. So long as you plan carefully and look for fast-charging opportunities, you need not worry about this either.

The US government will spend about $5 billion over the next five years to build a nationwide network of fast chargers to augment the machines already in place. This should equate to one charging complex every 50 miles, and the stations must be able to charge at least four EVs simultaneously at 150 KWs.

How Quickly Can You Charge a Car When on the Road?

Rapid chargers are the fastest way to boost electric vehicles and can give between 60 and 200 miles of range in as little as 20 to 30 minutes. So, if you’re on a particularly long journey and need to top up, the inconvenience is minimal. In fact, it won’t take much longer than a stop for petrol in an older car.

Of course, if you charge at home regularly, you should never need to worry about range anxiety. Make sure you fully charge your battery before you embark on a long journey and pinpoint the charging stations along the way in case of an emergency.
