We’ll know pretty soon first hand, they’re planning to deliver the first VF8 to the US customers on December 26th, right?

I think they don’t arrive until end of Dec. how fast they clear customs and deliver to a possible customer is an open question. If there are any buyers……

My test track drive did not find what this clearly agitated author found.

No it wasn’t, and I’m a little disappointed Vinfast hasn’t come out and done some damage control. I think he brought up some concerns that should be addressed. The thing I’m most nervous/disappointed in is that they’ll be throttling performance under 80%. 20%-80% is where I plan on doing most of my driving, and depending on the severity of the power limiting, that’ll make this significantly less appealing to me.

I believe there is no substance the ‘throttling’ claim. I certainly didn’t experience it with my shortest test drive; vehicle was below 80% range at the time. None of the other dozens and dozens of Vietnam test drivers noted it either.

      Grain of salt time.

I was on the same trip as this writer. Like many things in life, there are two sides to every story. It’s clear to me that VinFast wasn’t ready for bringing over this group of “influencers”. The cars weren’t ready for prime time and even though they made every effort to show the people on the trip that VinFast is a major player in Vietnam and they know how to stage a major production/showing, the response that has followed really threw a damper on their efforts.

The fact they came out with a so-called city edition with a very limited range was a face saving effort to try and meet their delivery schedule. No one on the trip was advised of this step child coming out. What happened to their internal market research telling them range anxiety is still a very real negative to the overall EV market?

Now, they are talking about deliveries of the full scale/range V8 sometime in July.

Time will tell if they actually make this revised delivery date.

Someone at corporate needs to stop making promises that can’t be kept and the continued price increases is putting them at a significant disadvantage to the established EV models coming to market. The negative automative press reviews aren’t doing them any good and is going to make it harder for them to position the car as an upscale, forward thinking EV.

I’m still holding out hope that when the final production models arrive in the US, they will exceed market expectations. It has the right “bones” to be a competitive sled for the US market/consumer.

    LDR

It is odd. There were several groups that went to Vietnam and a more than a few youtubers uploaded very very positive reviews during the summer. Brand name youtubers; ones I trust before they went. Then the negative ones came out months AFTER the trips. Odd. But yes, even I can see vinfast is really great at logistics for the events and using other vingroup properties to ‘show off’ the group and not really vinfast.

The entire CE trim is a dud. They ONLY did it, as you stated, to meet the YE delivery statements they were making. Just the range was bad enough, but then they removed the battery subscription option. That killed it for me otherwise I would have been ok(ish) buying the CE (not leasing) with a battery subscription. Oh well.

The positive energy sure has evaporated and now some of us are quite worried. Glad it was only $200…..

An update on the VF8: now word is they will arrive late first quarter beginning 2nd. That is already a slip from a few weeks ago. 🙁

Wouldn’t be quite so bad if vinfast communicated with the reservation holders more often (here?).

Here is a review of VF8 from Out of Spec. It’s a 45 min video.

Great video. Thanks for sharing. As I was originally thinking with the initial price of the VF8 Plus (the real VF8 Plus) that’s what it was worth with the Vinfast discount and IRS rebate that early reservation holders would end up paying with the battery subscription. 50K-60K VF8, I’ll pass for something way better.
