    ….looking at EV alternatives? Still a bit out of joint with the City Edition landing first and the creation of this trim due to horrible range reality. I’ve looked at Ioniq 5, EV6 (gt) and the chevy blazer EV (2024). I know each alternative will net-net cost me more than a Vinfast with the the vinfirst pioneers perks….but…. More than a bit worried that vinfast won’t be able to deliver on what they promised ie what was displayed on their website.

    The negative news keeps piling up, although most are owners in Vietnam and trolls on reddit.

    What is really bothersome is the next batch of VF8s estimated to be here 1st quarter 2023 might also be the City Edition. Think that might do it for me; will be time to move on.

    Hello Scott! Thank you for being an active community member. The VF 8 City Edition is an early production version of VF 8 to meet customers’ excitement of receiving a VF 8 model by end of 2022. The VF 8 Eco and Plus versions are in production and further updates will be provided as they become available.       oh, Hi Mod17: I think what vinfast missed was there wasn’t any ‘customer excitement’ over being the first to have a VF8 in calif if the sacrifice was range with the CE. I think vinfast disappointed way more reservation/order holders than you might have made ‘happy’ with a Dec delivery. Oh well, water under the bridge.

      Really hope the next batch to arrive is not the CE.

    I’m right there with you Scott. I’ve grown very disappointed with the lack of clarity from Vinfast, the constant missteps, the excuse of “we’re very new and trying to move fast”, and the lack of delivering on what’s promised. Every time I feel like cancelling my reservation, I have to remind myself when I reserved this that I did it for a reason. I have a growing family, and the VF9 is as close to perfect on paper as anything else I’ve seen. It’s the only real replacement for my PHEV Pacifica van in a price range I can rationalize, with a delivery date that’s somewhat tangible. Even if a competitor launches a 3 row alternative, what’s the chance I can get one without paying 20k over asking, or waiting in a que for over a year like I did with my wife’s ID.4? I even told myself in the beginning that I’d be over the moon excited if they actually delivered the VF9 in 2023, knowing full well that the 2022 promise had almost 0 chance of happening. I’m keeping my reservation, but I become less of an advocate, and more of a pessimist with every passing month.

    I to am looking at other alternatives as well. I have a Fisker Ocean reserved (probably going to cancel it), Chevy Blazer Reserved, Might try and place an order for the Equinox EV, or wait for POS rebate next year to get a Tesla Model 3. I like SUV more but if VF8 does not work out will cancel my reservation and move on to a different brand.

    The way I look at the negative reviews is that the VF8 is going through trials and errors as more and more ownership numbers going up. God willing, I hope the Vinfast engineering team would put the fixes in place before shipping the next batch of VF8 to US shores. I think the City Edition is a joke even with the perks and what not.

    The other EVs also look attractive from a performance perspective but the price point is out of reach, at least for me, at the time I placed the reservation on the VF8. I mean keeping things in perspective, no EV goes without glitches here and there inclusive of Tesla.

      I discount the Vietnam owner numbers going up. That is a different vehicle. I prefer to concentrate what comes to the US. I also put more stock into reviewers I trusted before they went to Vietnam for the all paid for lux vacation. Most of them were 100% positive. Even if taken with a grain of salt and the fact they were earlier production builds. I found no deal breakers in my test drive/drive along event. I mean, besides the ugliest gear selection knobs EVER.

      I’m with you on CE. I feel that trim was a complete mistake that they knew about prior to the 999 being aboard the ship. Way in advance. They knew, and they punted with no communication. Big mistake I think. And that mistake was compounded by removing the battery lease & then even the ownership (just a horrid 2 year lease plan). Yikes.

      And you are right: almost every other EV in this group looks like an EV and looks better. I’m kinda ok the VF8 looks like an ICE model (well it is: ICE design converted to EV).

      I was drawn to vinfast due to the discount and perks and the fact they are ‘new’. I missed the boat on Tesla because wasn’t ready for a new car as current one was just fine and I like to pay off vehicles before diving into a new one. Plus, I tend to be on the bleeding edge anyway.

      For me every other option would be thousands more expensive. Way past when I can reason to buy a new car. I do have some back up options: IONIQ 5, Chevy Blazer & EV6 GT Line. All would be more expensive, tho…..Looked at the Fisker, but that one is way way way way too expensive once you add options/packages.

      For now longer I wait, the better: no auto loan payment. Current Acura RDX is just fine and really I wish the dope who runs Honda/Acura did not stick their head into the sand EV wise. I’d jump on an Acura EV very quickly. Oh well, their loss.

    Volvo’s EX90 is winning my affection over the VF9. Great website, a proven platform, partnership with Geely, priced lower than the VF9

    Opening an order process and putting some dates out for delivery would go along way

      I am a VF9 reservation holder. My back up plan is Kia EV9 or the Hyundai Ioniq 7

      I already have a deposit down on the EX90. Vinfast went quite for the first months and a lot of things were changing (e.g. dates, features, range etc) so I figured it’s best to cover my bases and put down a refundable deposit. I’ll make my final decision when the production VF9 is ready (for instance the high floor in the 3rd room that I saw at the LA Auto show may be a show stopper for me) and the price, reliability etc is determined.

    Starting the process to reserve an EUV. Sounds like roughly a mid-April delivery, which would be amazing. Refundable $500 deposit, and they also cover the cost of home charger and installation, and it qualifies for the full $7500 credit. Might be selling that Pioneer reservation….

      The EUV, which is roughly VF8 size I believe. Maybe more VF7. The Bolt is the smaller hatchback. That one keeps catching fire, so I’m staying away. But the larger car is hardly more expensive, still under $30k before tax credit, so the same deal or better than being a Pioneer. Though the EUV isn’t AWD. I can live with that until I trade in for an Equinox or go back to the VF8 or some other model.

        oh no. the Bolt is much smaller than the VF8. Bolt is like VF6 size. A compact; calling it a SUV is a wild stretch.

        but, yes the Bolt is very affordable with some tradeoffs if one doesn’t mind. A great car for my wife when she is ready. 😝

        Just checked, and you’re basically right. The VF8 is 17 inches longer, 6 inches wider, and 2 inches taller than the Bolt EUV. The EUV is only 7 inches longer than its baby hatchback cousin, the regular Bolt EV. But the EUV does have over 16 cubic ft of rear cargo, almost 57 when the back seats are down. Can’t find specs for VF8, but that CES YouTube review didn’t seem impressed.

        Basically I want a strong EV ASAP. This will have strong trade-in value if I find something even better down the line. Tired of spending on gas and spewing carbon.

        I put down my VF8 deposit last April, and at that time I thought by this time of year I’d have solid news about my own car’s delivery toward the end of spring or early summer, and that it would be a dynamite competitor with everything else on the market. Other than price, that doesn’t seem to be the case from early reviews. If that changes, I can always go back to VinFast. Just will lose my Pioneer perks. Oh well.

      And yes, they’re both Chevy Bolt variants. Sorry, forgot to clarify that.
