12 volt battery
40 VF PointsMember12/12/2022 at 10:55I am seeing videos online of problems already occurring with the 12 volt battery. Other EV brands are having problems too. What is VF doing to fix and/or prevent these issues?

A few of those vids aren’t really the 12v battery problem. It’s the only way to reboot the computer is cut the 12v battery power. Vinfast needs a way to reboot that doesn’t involve a wrench.

Usually the 12V battery is very cheap and easy to change, but I would not expect issues with it on new cars.

It’s really a ‘need to reboot’ computer issue vs a hardware issue with battery.

I believe it’s more of a software/firmware issue. It is quite a serious issue as it appears that the vehicle is becoming unresponsive in the middle of the street. This could be a disaster in the middle of rush hour traffic. Hopefully it’s an easy fix and they can send OTA to fix. They certainly shouldn’t release cars to customers in the US until they are sure they have figured this out.

This software issue was a concern of mine as well. During the test drive this weekend the rep stated that the VF8 on their way over have upgraded software. I hope this has resolved this issue.

I’ve heard the same stories with other EVs as well, they keep a jump start kit just in case. Hopefully an update on their BMS software fixes the issue. I’ll take it over 2,000+ moving parts in a drive train for an ICE vehicle vs 20 moving parts in an EV.

This problem is happening with the current Vietnam models. VF needs to fix this BEFORE they release them in the US.

This issue is more serious than a simple disconnect-reconnect 12V battery. Again this incident also happened with latest VF8 in Vietnam. The video was posted up 13 hours ago and it showed the excessively amount of current pumped from the main battery to the 12V (typically rated 55-60A max)

I keep seeing people post their 12V battery issues. I know Tesla had similar issue with their 12V LEAD battery before as well. Is there a plan for VF to replace them with the 12V Lithium battery?

12V battery issue on Tesla is the thing of the past. My daughter has driven 2023 M3 for 4 months without any problems. The draining issue remains a concern for me unless you replace it with a good LFP but it would void the warrantee and it is not a guarantee fix.

I don’t thing it is the thing of the past. Not just Tesla and VinFast, Kia, Nissan and other brands have this problem too. I think it is the combination of both software and hardware. First is the battery itself and second is how the system recharges the 12V.
